Chaliyar Doha marks National Sport Day

DOHA: Al Wakra Sports Club witnessed the grand celebration of Chaliyar Doha Sports Day with four world athletic champions as chief guests at the inaugural ceremony.

Olympian Shiny Wilson, who is also the Asian Games Gold Medalist, inaugurated the fourth edition of the Chaliyar Doha Sports Mega Event in the presence of Fimi Ognodo, the fastest runner of Qatar; Talal Manzoor, one of the Olympic finalist in 100 and 200 metres and winner of gold medal in the Asian Games and Scottish Olympian Liz McColgan.

Expatriates from 24 local provinces that lie across the shores of Chaliyar, a major river in the Kerala state, India, participated in various activities.

Olympian Shiny Wilson accompanied by other three world athletic champions led a procession, around 3,000 people lined up that starts from Al Wakrah Pearl signal.

Plots and colourful visuals exhibited by various panchayats were of great attraction.

Chaliyar Doha is a sports and environment organisation working in the name of a River in Kerala.
