(MENAFN) After a parliamentary vote of no confidence brought by several MPs on Sunday in the Lower House, the Jordanian government of Prime Minister Hani Mulki is still on position.
The vote was opposed by 67 MPs, while 49 voted in favor and four abstained, out of the 122 MPs who attended the Lower House session.
The session was headed by the Speaker of the House, Atef Tarawneh, and attended by the Prime Minister, Hani Mulki who thanked the Parliament for renewing confidence in his government ensuring they will continue work to protect the country and the citizens. He confirmed his government will not leave any problems for years to come.
"I thank you all, whether you have voted in favor, opposed or abstained. I will remain open to all of you and we will work together for our country and the citizen under the Hashemite patronage."
The memorandum that requested a no-confidence motion against the government was signed by 22 MPs. They cited the government's lack of insight to address current challenges and tax burdens that were put on citizens as main reasons behind their request.
It's worth mentioning that this comes after many protests in the Jordanian streets over the poor economic situation, taking into consideration the government decisions of raising the prices of many essential goods.
