New analysis shows that residents in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria are currently paying more than what is considered reasonable by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. A recent report claims that consumers could be paying up to $430 more for their electricity by the end of next year, unless wholesale gas prices are addressed, according to an article published in The Age on Monday. reports that the McKell Institute has now analysed the effect that wholesale gas prices have on domestic energy bills on the east coast of Australia and found that they are currently paying between $100 and $200 more than they should according to the ACCC. They have also found that based on present consumption trends and price predictions, NSW households could be paying an average of $434.08 more by December 2019. Households in Queensland could potentially be paying $312.92 more and Victorian households could see a rise of $254.09.
The Australian Workers Union, which commissioned the McKell modelling, is pushing for key political parties to adopt a gas reservation policy where prices were kept down and domestic supply guaranteed. Daniel Walton, AWU National Secretary, reportedly said that it was a disgrace that regular families were being hit with the consequences, and that the government needed to 'pull a handful of multinational gas exporters back into line".

These days Pricewise Insulation believes the situation is different. Now it seems the average working family can't afford not to install ceiling insulation.
