Turkish police detain 'healthcare minister' of IS

Turkish police detained Kefah Basher Hussein, the so-called healthcare minister of the 'Islamic State' (IS) terrorist group, in the south-eastern Turkish province of Sanliurfa.

The police also detained 14 more people, who had ties with the IS, the province police said in a message Jan. 24.

On Jan. 12, Turkish police arrested Tarik Ahmet, the so-called agriculture minister of the IS, in Kayseri Province.

In December 2017, one of the executioners of the IS, a 28-year-old terrorist nicknamed Mahmud, was arrested in Turkey's Hatay Province on the border with Syria.

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed more than 500,000 lives. Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The "Islamic State" (IS), the YPG (Kurdish People's Protection Units) and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
