Saudi Arabia to launch USD532m desalination construction project


(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia is reportedly to launch an over $530 million construction project a of nine desalination plants on the Red Sea coast.

Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli was cited by the Saudi Gazette declaring the capacity of the plants to be 240,000 cu m of water daily and its construction is to take eighteen months to be concluded.

The minister also confirmed the plan is to encourage Saudi Saline Water Conversion Corp (SWCC) to increase the efficiency of supply and cut operating and capital expenses.

Saudi Arabia desalinated water production was revealed by SWCC to have been boosted at the end of last year to five cubic meters daily (m3/d).
