Riyadh, Jumada I 06, 1439, January 23, 2018, SPA -- Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, who is also the Director of Comprehensive Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in Yemen, Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber and the Spokesman of the Arab Coalition Forces for the Support of Legitimacy, in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al-Malki held a meeting here today, to explain aspects of humanitarian operations, in Yemen, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of a number of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, aiming to meet the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people, delivering of all shipments and oil derivatives to all Yemen regions, including Sana'a and Hodeidah.
The humanitarian plan does not only target returning of trade flows and the humanitarian situations before November 6, but also achieving levels of goods flow and significant improvement, in various aspects of life, in Yemen, they said, stressing that among the most the goals of the plan, taking into account the serious threat being posed by Iranian- backed Houthi coup militias to the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the countries of the region and the vital waterways of international trade, as the Houthis militias fired more than 250 ballistic missiles, more than 80 of them targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the comprehensive operations are a continuation of what the Saudi Arabia has done, in humanitarian contributions amounted to more than $900 million, included in direct and indirect Aid to Yemeni displaced people and joint programs with the Yemeni government, amounting to over than $8 billion.
Elements of the comprehensive humanitarian plan for Yemen, include delivering four mobile cranes of World Food Programme (WFP) and installing them, in Hodeidah port, as the plan aims to increase the capacity of the Yemeni ports and to make Yemen facilitates capable of receiving the needs of various items of imports amount to (1.4 million metric tons per month) comparing to (1.1 million metric tons per month) in 2017, increasing the capacity of the Yemeni ports in (Aden, Mukalla and Mokha) to 500,000 metric tons per month of oil derivatives as soon as possible, against previously 250,000 metric tons per month, in 2017, as the highest number in 2017, and an increase in capacity in these ports by installing four mobile cranes, two of them in Mokha and each in Aden and Makala, in addition to other logistics' projects, in these ports such as power generators and warehouses, they pointed out.
Jazan port will be used to receive goods, because of its proximity to northern Yemen, the indicated. The comprehensive humanitarian operation includes establishment of an airlift, in Marib, to deliver the key humanitarian aid and medical assistance by C-130 aircraft carriers, and delivering humanitarian assistance through three border crossing, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemen, namely Al-Tuwal, to serve Hajjah governorate of Yemen and Khadra to serve the governorates of Saada and Al Jawf and Al- Wadi'ah as well, they explained.
The coalition will establish safe corridors to ensure delivery and distribution of aid and shipments to all Yemeni regions, to be used by United Nations agencies and other humanitarian organizations, the stated, pointing out that the coalition also allows the entry of fuel shipments, food shipments and humanitarian shipments to Hodeidah Port, for a month to apply the UN envoy's plan for Hodeidah Port, and if the Houthi militias will continue to refuse the plan, the port of Hodeidah will remain open exclusively for shipments of humanitarian aid, relief, medical supplies, and trade food shipments, they asserted, saying that these measures will also be applied to the port of Salib, as the fuel and non-food cargoes would be transferred to other cities, including Sana'a, Hodeidah and other areas, through safe corridors and that the coalition will bear the cost of deliverance to Houthi controlled areas, maintaining the previous price level.
Concluding the meeting, they said that Saudi Arabia will provide oil derivatives to Yemen to support the economy, the steadfastness of the Yemeni people and to alleviate their suffering, as the coalition will provide Central Bank of Yemen with a deposit to maintain the exchange rates under control and improve living conditions of the Yemeni people.
