Iraq to sign memorandum of understanding with US firm to tap gas

(MENAFN) Iraq is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with American energy company Orion, aiming to tap gas at an oil field in the south of the country.

Even when the Nahr Bin Omar field is generating 40,000 barrels of oil daily, a mere small part of the gas from the field is being used.

Iraq is seeking to tap its gas deposits in an attempt to fix the issue of major electricity deficits in the country where 35 million people are affected.

Baghdad has been conducting meetings with American giant Exxon and Chinese companies, discussing the growth of oil production at the field.
