Saudi tourism sector to be key for Vision 2030 plans

(MENAFN) BMI Research has released a new report which found the Saudi tourism sector to be the key to its Vision 3030 plans, as a 5.8% annual increase in international tourists has been predicted to occur 2018-2022.

Statistics from the World Travel and Tourism Council showed the tourism sector and its indirect impacts to have amounted for 10.2% of GDP in 2016.

BMI also predicts the tourism sector to significantly impact job creation, as the government targets a rise in job numbers in the sector by nearly 50% to 1.2 million by 2020.

The report explained "compared with the 13.8 million employed as of Q3 2017, and given the indirect job creation resulting from tourism activity, the sector has the potential to become a strong contributor to job creation at a time when the Saudi government is seeking to bring down the unemployment rate for Saudi citizens while reducing reliance on public sector jobs."
