US national security to focus on competition of great powers not terrorism

(MENAFN) The current priority of the US national security is the competition between great powers rather than terrorism, U.S. Defence Secretary James Mattis declared.

As he revealed the national defence strategy, Mattis confirmed that the United States was at risk of "growing threats from revisionist powers as different as China and Russia."

He then warned against "threaten[ing] America's experiment in democracy" with Russia apparently implied, "if you challenge us, it will be your longest and worst day."

The Defence Secretary has called for Congress to sufficiently finance the military and avoid "indiscriminate and automatic cuts" to the US federal budget.
