(MENAFN) Four Indian states choose to ban the screening of notorious Bollywood movie Padmavat, however, the decision was overturned by the Supreme Court as it approved of its release.
Even though the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved of the film, it was forcibly banned in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
Hindu and caste groups have originated protests against the movie which tells the story of a 14th Century Hindu queen and a Muslim ruler.
Chief Justice Dipak Misra justified the clearance saying "cinemas are an inseparable part of right to free speech and expression. State... cannot issue notifications prohibiting the screening of a film."
