International conference on moderation and peace in Prophet's life concludes in Mauritania

NOUAKCHOTT, 18th December, 2017 (WAM) -- An international conference has called for take inspiration from the values of moderation of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH and to take advantage of the lessons entrenched from his teachings to correct misconceptions about Islam.

"It will confront the trends of extremism and develop the moderate discourse in a way that takes into account the differences of time and place and keeps abreast with fixed Islamic moderate values far away from immediate emotions and reactions," read the final statement of the conference, the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, has reported.

The International Conference on Moderation and Peace in the Prophet's Life, was organised by Muslim World League in cooperation with Islamic Cultural Assemblage in West Africa, in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott under the patronage of President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania.

It was attended by the League's Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, and saw the participation of a group of more than 24 countries representing officials, scholars, thinkers, researchers and university professors.

The statement highlighted the need to consolidate cooperation between Muslims and take advantage of the lessons of history in distancing from any matter raising strife and division between them, calling on the media to contribute to spreading the culture of peace, understanding and moderation, and not to promote a culture of violence and hatred.
