Jordan at the forefront to counter U.S. administration's Jerusalem decision: Al-Momani

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 14 (Petra)-Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson, Mohammed al-Momani, said the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) extraordinary summit is a global political bid to showcase a unanimous Islamic stance to defend "our eternal rights in the occupied Jerusalem." This OIC summit, Al-Momani pointed out, is the Islamic world's reaction to blast the U.S. step to recognize the holy city as Israel's capital and to relocate its country's embassy there.

Jordan's firm stance was at the forefront to highlight grave repercussions of the U.S. decision and the country launched intensive efforts to coordinate a relevant pan- Arab and an inter-Islamic position, he told the "News and Dialogue Show" aired by the Jordanian every Thursday morning.

The U.S. closely follows-up world reactions on its move, deemed as a breach of international legitimacy resolutions and legally void, which triggered isolation to Washington, he added.

On Jordanian-Palestinian coordination, the minster said bilateral efforts are ongoing and the two parties mull ideas to reverse the decision's diverse ramifications.

The Palestinian leadership has a strong belief in peace, signed accords in a bid to push the peace process forward, yet the U.S. illegal step negatively impacted the Mideast peace aspirations, he pointed out.

The terror powers will deem the U.S. decision as a pretext to ignite their extremist rhetoric to recruit fresh followers to carry out their agenda, he added.

As for Israel's worship freedom allegations in Jerusalem, Al-Momani said, this right has always been safeguarded in the past centuries for believers of the monotheistic faiths and Tel Aviv's stance in this regard contravenes history's facts.

On the International Criminal Court (ICC) decision to refer Jordan to the UN Security Council, the minister said the Kingdom will tackle this development in accordance with relevant legal frameworks.

The country's reception of the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir to take part in the Arab Summit, held in Amman early this year, was based on the Arab League Charter and compatible with internationally-ratified laws, he affirmed..
