Embrace Doha, a Qatari company specializing in cultural events, provides a unique take on the National Day celebrations launching a series of events and activities showcasing Qatari culture while supporting local business startups.

Called 'Labaih Ya Amir (Here I am at your service, O Emir), Embrace Doha's National Day celebration launched at Katara Esplanade on Tuesday was inspired by H H Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's call to build the country's economy and protect its security.

With Katara as cultural partner for the second consecutive year, the event is one of the main features of the rich offerings at the Cultural Village to mark the momentous occasion.

'Compared last year, this is bigger in scope. Last year we focused more on presenting the rich facets of Qatari culture, but this year we are not only showcasing our culture but also what the Qatari startups are doing, Amal Al Shammari, CEO of Embrace Doha, told The Peninsula.

Seven startups have set up their stalls at Embrace Doha's pavilion including three incubatees at the Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC) where Embrace Doha has all started and for Al Shammari, this is her way of paying it forward.

'I'm so happy that it gives me the opportunity to help other startups because Embrace Doha was a startup as well. Having this opportunity to open doors for other people who are going through the same process that I went through is a joy, she said.

Dealing in a variety of businesses from food to perfume to art, the startups demonstrate the entrepreneurial spirit of Qataris to contribute to the country's development during a significant period in its recent history.

An important feature at the pavilion is a QBIC stall where those interested in starting their business can avail of important information to guide them on how to come up with their own startups.

The pavilion is a hub which combines culture, education and entertainment abuzz with varied activities where hundreds of people have already taken part since its opening.

A stage greets the visitors with a series of presentations including poetry, traditional dance and song interpretation by schoolchildren from various educational institutions in the country.

Two Bedouin tents , one for VIPs and another for the public, provide visitors knowledge and experience on authentic Qatari hospitality as they witness Arabic coffee and tea being prepared and sample them for free.

Workshops on pottery, drawing and Arabic calligraphy, henna and face painting and Qatari handicraft making demonstration are among the other attractions at the pavilion which is open from 4pm to 10 pm every day until December 19.
