Chances of scattered rain until Monday


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) There are chances of scattered rain in the country from Thursday noon until early on Monday, December 18, the Qatar Met department has said.

The weather office has also issued a warning for thunder and showers and high seas.

The department has urged people to be cautious and avoid offshore activities during this period, as well as to follow weather updates through its official website and social media accounts.

In a report on Wednesday, the Met department said weather maps indicated that the cloud cover would gradually increase in the country between Thursday noon and the early hours of Monday. Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are expected at times, especially on Saturday and Sunday, and there is a chance of light scattered rain.

The rain may become thundery at times - especially offshore and will be accompanied by sudden strong winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots. This, in turn, will cause the wave height to rise to 7ft during thunderstorms, the report explains.

Inshore, the winds during this period will mostly be southeasterly-northeasterly, ranging from 5-15 knots in speed and reaching a high of 18 knots at times.

Cold weather will continue at night with temperatures staying around their normal levels for this time of the year. The maximum is expected to range from 19-24C and the minimum from 10-18C, the Met department has said.

Meanwhile, Thursday's detailed forecast states that poor visibility is expected in some places in the early hours of the day. On the other hand, there is a warning for thundery rain in some offshore areas.

Hazy to misty/foggy conditions are likely in some inshore areas at first, followed by moderate temperatures. Scattered clouds are also expected, and it will be cold at night. Visibility will drop to 2km or less in the early hours.

The minimum temperature on Thursday is expected to be 11C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, and 16C in Doha.

Wednesday, the mercury level dipped to 10C in Mesaieed and Turayna, while in Doha it was 15C.
