Emir Participates in OIC Extraordinary Summit

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani participated along with the official delegation at the opening session of the extraordinary Summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held at the Convention Center in Istanbul on Wednesday morning to discuss the repercussions of the US administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Addressing the opening of the meeting, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convenes today to say "stop to tyranny".

He said that US President Donald Trump's recognition of Al Quds as the capital of Israel is a harmful act against human conscience, and that this step aims to legitimize Israel's attempts to occupy Jerusalem.

"They expect the Islamic nation to remain silent. But we will never be silent. This bullying eliminates the possibility of peace. The US' decision is null as far as we are concerned," Cavusoglu said.

The Turkish Foreign Minister stressed the importance for Palestinians to achieve national reconciliation and unity and not to be dragged behind provocations, adding that they also have to continue their struggle under the law and do not allow anyone to prejudice the sanctity of Jerusalem and its historical status.
