PARIS, 13th December, 2017 (WAM) -- Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, has stated that the UAE's participation in the Paris Climate Summit has enabled its delegation to inform the world about the nation's efforts to reduce climate change on national, regional and international levels.

In an interview with the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the summit, Al Zeyoudi said that the UAE's participation in this important international summit has provided an opportunity to present its experience in investing in clean and renewable energy during the last decade.

"We actually succeeded in delivering a global message to all the participating countries at the Paris Climate Summit that the UAE has managed to advance its role in promoting clean energy, due to its efforts and persistence, despite the ongoing use of hydrocarbons, as well as the development of its national human resources in this area," Al Zeyoudi added.

He went on to say that since its investment in clean energy, the UAE focuses on involving its human resources in the area of development, both inside and outside of the country.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi affirmed that the Emirati participation in the summit was an important opportunity to present the UAE's experience to Pacific and Caribbean countries, to assist them in re-developing their economies, following the serious weather conditions they recently experienced.

In his reply to a question on the UAE's experience in the green economy, he said that investing in this area means directly investing in clean energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

He also expressed his satisfaction at the UAE delegation's contribution and participation in the summit's panel discussions and multilateral and bilateral talks while noting that these activities have enabled the UAE to present its experience in clean energy, combatting climate change, developing a green economy and protecting the environment.

The UAE participated at the summit in the French capital on Tuesday with a delegation led by Dr. Al Zeyoudi. The summit also saw the participation of the presidents and representatives of 50 countries, as well as international and non-governmental organisations working to combat climate change, on the second anniversary of the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement.
