Nabila Makram heads to Kuwait to follow up on assaulted Egyptian

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram will head to Kuwait to follow up on the case of a Kuwaiti man who assaulted an Egyptian man, after the approval of Acting Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

A video circulated on social media platforms showing a Kuwaiti citizen severely beating an Egyptian national, Waheed Mahmoud El-Rafie, inside the shop where the latter was working.

It was reported that a dispute began when the Egyptian worker said that the shop could not offer the Kuwaiti man service, as it was the employees€™ lunch time. Also, it was reported on social media that others who were present during the brawl attempted to interfere to calm the situation, but the Kuwaiti citizen left, only to return with a stick, with which he beat the Egyptian worker.
The Consulate of Egypt in Kuwait said that El-Rafie has undergone surgery and is in stable condition. It also added that Kuwaiti authorities arrested the suspected perpetrator, who will be investigated. It also said that the consulate has contacted the wife of the victim.

The minister said she has contacted officials in Kuwait to follow up on the case. She added that these are isolated incidents against Egyptians, stressing that it will not affect the nature of good relations between the people of Egypt and Kuwait, noting the presence of thousands of Egyptians in the country.

However, this is not the first incident of its kind; a number of Egyptian nationals have been previously assaulted abroad in similar cases. In 2015, another Kuwaiti ran over an Egyptian following a dispute between Egyptian workers and two Kuwaitis in an electronics shop in Rehab Mall in Kuwait, over the price of a PlayStation gaming console.
