Spar Oman and Kellogg's to host scrabble tourney


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The World English Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA)-approved SPAR Oman Kellogg's Open Youth Scrabble Tournament (SOKOYST) returns with Season 2. The super-charged word event is on Friday, December 1 at the American British Academy (ABA) in Al Khuwayr.

Megel Barker, assistant principal at ABA and Event Organiser, said, 'Scrabble is a family game that develops the English language, broadens vocabulary and improves self-management skills in children while they are having fun. Building these critical skills through play ensures that children develop the resilience and creativity to achieve well in the future.'

Devendra Kumar, general manager, SPAR Oman, said, 'We were delighted to host scrabble enthusiasts in various age groups, not only from the sultanate but also from all over the region as well. At SPAR, we look for every opportunity to connect directly with our shoppers and enhance their experience.'

Rajesh George, general manager, Kellogg's Oman, said, 'Scrabble is perhaps one of the oldest and most popular brain game played largely with family and friends. Kellogg's is happy to co-host such event in the sultanate.'

This year, participants will play in Under 10, Under 13, Under 20 and Adult divisions ensuring that children play competitive games with their peers. Children under the age of10 years will play four games, those under age 20 will play six games while the adult divisions will play eight games using the Swiss Draw pairing system. The field will include players from the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar and last year's adult champion Paul Richards from Australia. Participants must be at the venue by 8.30am.
