Qatar General Organisation for Standardisation joins SMIIC

Qatar General Organization for Standardization has joined the membership of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC), during the 15th meeting of the Board of Directors and the 12th meeting of its General Assembly, currently in session in Istanbul, Turkey.

The 15th SMIIC Board meeting discussed a number of issues, including the request of the State of Qatar for the General Organization for Standardization to join the SMIIC as a member representing the State, which has been approved. Qatar's request to join the SMIIC reflects its keenness on promoting its active participation in various international forums.

The Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC) was established in 1998. It currently includes 33 Islamic countries, each represented by its national standardization organization.

The SMIIC aims at enhancing cooperation and coordination among Islamic countries in the field of standardization, the Halal product specification sector, and enabling Member States to realize the economic benefit of these specifications through achieving uniformity in metrology, laboratory testing and standardization activities and ensuring education and training and providing technical assistance to the OIC Members in the domain of standardization and metrology, as per the information available from sources.
