OIC, Iraqi gov't organize preparatory reconciliation meeting

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Iraqi government agreed on holding a preparatory conference to be held in Baghdad, Iraq on December 11-12 ahead of holding national reconciliation conference later.

The preparatory meeting will refer its recommendations to the upcoming general conference for national reconciliation of all Iraqi segments, OIC said in a statement.

The conference will be held during a time Iraq is recovering from terrorism threats after liberating all Iraqi territories from the so-called Islamic State (IS), it noted.

"The time has come to pursue a comprehensive national reconciliation to pave the road for a new era of reconstruction, national unity, and prosperity, it added.

In 2006, OIC organized the Makkah-1 Conference for Iraqi National Reconciliation, which included sheikhs and religious scholars representing various divisions of the Iraqi society as part of their efforts to support the country's unity. (end) nh.kns.lb
