Russia: law to list 'foreign agent' media signed

(MENAFN) A recent law has been signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin that gives the government permission to classify any foreign media working in Russia as a foreign agent.

The bill which Parliament approved to earlier had come as retribution for Kremlin-backed broadcaster RT being asked to be listed as a foreign agent in the United States.

The law is to possibly affect more than nine US-funded broadcasters that include Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
