Qatar takes part in population meet

Qatar's Permanent Population Committee will take part in the 18th session of the National Population Councils and Committees of the Arab States, which is being held in Amman till November 28.

Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabet will chair Qatar's delegation to the meetings, the Permanent Population Committee said in a statement yesterday.

The meetings will discuss several important topics related to development and population issues in the Arab world, at the forefront the proposal submitted by Jordan to establish a 'High Level Council for Population and Development within the Arab League system. The meetings will also discuss program of action for the Arab region for population and development for the next three years, the convening of the regional conference on the adoption of the periodic review of the program of action of the conference and linking its the program of action for sustainable development, as well as the results of the 50th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development.

The meetings will also outline the preparations for the 51st session of the UN Commission on Population and Development, and discuss population policies in the Arab world and other related population issues and policies. The participation in these meetings stems from its keenness on activating its partnership and cooperation with international and regional institutions related to population and development issues, especially as Qatar pays particular attention to the population issue for its close and effective association with the process of sustainable development.
