Kuwait- Turkish forces arrest 41 PKK, IS members


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Nov 25 (KUNA) -- Turkish police arrested 41 people for their membership in outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and so-called Islamic State (IS), part of Ankara's crackdown on terrorism.

Policemen captured nine PKK militants in synchorized operations in different locations in Istanbul, Anadolu news agency reported.

It said the arrest was based on intelligence that the arrestees were planning attacks on November 27, which would mark the anniversary of PKK establishment in 1978.

The police also seized documents, weapons and ammunition, it said.

Security forces also arrested 12 suspected IS members in eastern Turkey, while 10 others were captured in the southern Hatay province.

The Turkish police also arrested 10 suspected IS members also in Hatay, accused of contacting IS in Syria. (end) rs.bs
