Missing Argentine submarine: hope is lost

(MENAFN) Families of the 44 workers of the missing Argentine submarine have given up and went home after days of waiting at the sub's Mar del Plata naval base, frustrated by evidence that it may have exploded.

The submarine went missing about nine days ago, with oxygen supply of only seven days.

According to President Mauricio Macri, the search will go on, and he expects it to be located within the coming days, as he demanded a "serious and deep" inspection into the incident when the search operation was complete.

He said: "This means understanding how a submarine that had received midlife maintenance and was in perfect condition to navigate apparently suffered this explosion."

Navy spokesman said they would search an area around where a sound of explosion believed to be distinguished on the morning of Nov. 15, when it sent its last signal.
