(MENAFN)Iraqi military said that Iraqi forces have prepared on Thursday to clear the desert bordering Syria of Daesh to clean Iraq from the terrorist group.
Iraqi military officials said that militants were hiding in a large strip of border land, while troops from the Iraqi army and Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) took part in the campaign against them.
"The objective behind the operation is to prevent remaining Daesh groups from melting into the desert region and using it as a base for future attacks." stated army colonel Salah Kareem.
Daesh was defeated from a military perspective but a final victory after Daesh terrorists were directed in the desert, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi said on Tuesday.
