With Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan released from playing and Mohammed Shami injured, the 2nd Test saw comebacks for players like Murali Vijay and Ishant Sharma who last played in March earlier this year.

Further Rohit Sharma, even with his inconsistent Test performance, got a chance in the playing XI. Inclusion of the sixth batsman has strengthened the already powerful Indian batting order.
