Organic, homemade products businesses thrive at Torba Farmers Market

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Torba Farmers Market at the Education City is a melting pot for unique products by local entrepreneurs and small businesses, and a great way to spend the weekends with family and friends.
Hosted by Qatar Foundation, the Torba Farmers Market brings locally-grown food and a wide range of homemade products to the wider community. Located at QF's Ceremonial Court, the market is accessible via Gate 2 every Thursday from 9am to 4pm and every Friday from 8am to 11am and 2pm to 5pm.
Visitors can sample scrumptious and healthy foods and beverages by home-based businesses, up and coming entrepreneurs, and other members of the Qatar's startup community. Visitors can select from a variety of organic vegetables, including quality handicrafts.

One of the market tenants, Noor Ahmed al-Ansari, the co-founder and director of six-month old startup, Juicin' It, said her business is expanding with the opening the company's first shop at Hamad International Airport next month.
Ujvala Vemparala, co-founder and CEO of Juicin' It, said their recipes are meticulously produced using quality imported fruits and vegetables.
'Many of these unique recipes are a result of a lot of trial and error until we've come up with the best juices…we're planning to come up with a recipe for cleansing soon, which we plan to launch next week, Vemparala said.
Al-Ansari also lauded the various initiatives that encourages and promotes Qatari businesses, especially after the blockade that was imposed on Qatar in June.
'I'm all for promoting local products…the blockade had actually worked for us. Now a lot of people are encouraging Qatari-based businesses and even home-based businesses, and I encourage it 100%; I am all for what's made in Qatar and to encourage Qatari people to buy from businesses like us to help us grow instead of just relying on foreign imports, al-Ansari emphasised.
Aside from small businesses, the Torba Farmers Market was also an opportunity for the owner of the Instagram handle sourdough_ha to share her hobby with other people.
Specialising in 100%, organic sourdough bread naturally-fermented and naturally-leavened bread, her breads are an instant hit to many patrons of the Torba Farmers Market.
'I think nobody really sells sourdough in Qatar though it's really big in other countries that are into the normal way of making bread.
'The issue with bread available in the market is that they use commercial yeast, which does not breakdown wheat the same way wild yeast does because you don't have the fermentation process in it, so it makes it much harder for people to digest, which is why some people get that bloated feeling when they eat bread, she said.
