Gourmets sampled some of the finest in Italian cuisine at the ‘Supreme Italian Dining Experience' held on Tuesday at Marsa Malaz Kempinski as a highlight of the Italian Week organised by the Italian Embassy in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency and The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar.
The dinner was a gastronomic journey into scrumptious Italian gourmets led by prominent Italian Chef Massimo Malantrucco who flew in from Rome for the event.
'Chef Malantrucco is a very famous TV entertainer in Italy who has been leading a number of relevant projects to promote a healthy and balanced diet and to preserve the natural and organic food products from the Italian territory, Italian Ambassador Pasquale Salzano said as he opened the event.
Earlier this week, Chef Malantrucco delivered an exclusive masterclass on ‘The Extraordinary Italian Taste' for the Qatari Businesswomen Association at Antica Pesa Restaurant in Marsa Malaz Kempinski.
The dinner was part of the ongoing Italian Cuisine Week promoted for the second year worldwide by Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
'This event falls within the Italian Cuisine Week around the world which officially started yesterday and will last until November 27. The week is a global event dedicated to the Italian culinary and food tradition organized simultaneously by the Italian Embassies all around the world. It includes an array of events related not only to our excellence in food but also to fashion, culture and well-being, explained Salzano.
He underscored how much Italians care about promoting a healthy lifestyle through the use of local products.
'Our ultimate goal in organizing the Italian Week is not limited to promotion of our food industry. What we are aiming here is to raise awareness on the comprehensive benefits of the whole Italian lifestyle which in this respect is a blend of quality, sustainability, food security, territorial identity and biodiversity, the ambassador stressed.
In connection with this, an open to the public seminar on the benefits of Mediterranean diet was held yesterday at Katara with Professor Giorgio Calabrese, an expert in food science and acclaimed science writer as speaker.
Italian restaurants in Doha are taking part in the week-long event through special menus celebrating Italian cuisine for the wider public to appreciate. Italian coffee and gelato tasting will happen this weekend at Al Hazm Mall. Apart from food, Italian Week also comprises events that touch on famous aspects of Italian culture including fashion and style and music.
An exhibition titled '50 years of Italian Fashion will open at the Four Seasons Doha tonight.
'The event will celebrate another peculiar feature of our Italian culture which is based on the outstanding accomplishments of Italian family-owned businesses. Family businesses have been sustaining the Italian economic development for years. Small and medium companies have been able to grow to become global leaders in the niche markets, thanks to their dedication and enthusiasm. The fashion event on Thursday will celebrate the Italian business families' commitment to excellence, explained Salzano. The week will culminate with a concert featuring the enduring compositions of the iconic Rossini, Verdi and Puccini. Famous soprano singer Silvana Froli and conductor Jacopo Sipari di Pescasseroli are expected to enthrall Italian opera music lovers in Doha at the concert at Qatar National Convention Center on Monday.
