Deadline for conversion of PIO Cards to OCI Cards has been fixed, Embassy of India said in a statement. December 31, 2017 has been fixed as the final deadline for freeof-charge conversion of Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) cards into Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards. No further extensions will be considered.
It may also be noted that PIO Community / PIO Cardholders travelling to India on the strength of their PIO cards (handwritten) may be refused entry at the Indian Immigration Counters and sent back after ICAO rules/guidelines (with respect to travel with machine readable travel documents) come into effect, said Embassy of India in a statement.
The PIO Cardholders are requested to obtain their OCI Cards before the deadline as any request for conversion post-deadline will attract a fee of $275, which is the same as the fee charged for issuance of a fresh OCI card.
