UN: Tuz Khurmatu bombing in retaliation to terrorists defeat on ground


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- UN Special Representative to the Secretary-General in Iraq Jan Kubis condemned on Wednesday the bombing, which took place in Tus Khurmatu last night, adding the attack comes in retaliation to terrorists defeat on the ground.

In a statement, Kubis said that the terrorists have attacked once again in Iraq, which resulted in killing and injuring 20 people.

Kubis, who also heads United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), said that "terrorists realized now that they have been defeated on the frontlines, and has turned to cowardless acts against innocent civilians," expressing sorrow and condolnces to victims' families.

Last night, around 20 people were killed in a car bomb explosion in an area in northern Iraq, Iraqi police announced.

The car bomb went off near a popular market in the center of the city of Tuz Khurmatu of Saladin Governorate, a police source told KUNA.

The blast also caused multiple injuries to 30 others, the source said, adding that the wounded were transfered to neaby hospital afterwards, said the source. (end) ahh.mb
