Oman- 30 SQU students learn about green concrete during site visit

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Ready-mix concrete company Rak Mix on Monday hosted 30 students from the Civil Engineering Department of the Sultan Qaboos University for a seminar titled 'Green Concrete vs Standard Concrete' at its site in Jifnain.

'We invited the students to introduce them to green concrete which is the future. It's important to preserve nature to the best of our ability. That's our responsibility,' Chiranjib Deb, operations manger, Rak Mix told Muscat Daily.

'Every field should think about reducing carbon footprint. Fly ash or GGBS (Ground-granulated blast-furnace slag) only produces 30 per cent of carbon emissions as compared to standard concrete.

'We aim to keep inviting students from different colleges in the future to introduce them to these products and also learn from them. This exchange of ideas leads to innovation.'

Houd al Saadi, who was among the SQU students, said, 'This visit helped us to know the technicalities of making cement and concrete and how to reduce the construction cost.'

Another student, Abdul Salam al Shahri, added, 'The visit is very important. Our studies are based on academic and practical aspects. The practical aspect can be achieved through these types of visits. The company officials briefed us about the new environment-friendly material that has entered the industry.'
