Oman- Mohammed Riaz celebrates 47th National Day of sultanate with pride

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The auspicious day of November 18, the 47th National Day of the sultanate, is a day when the country revels in its nationalism with dazzling displays of red, green and white, representing the National Flag showcased all over Oman in its entirety from North to South. This day is extremely sacred and revered, for it symbolises all that is great in Oman.

As part of the countrywide celebrations, Mohammed Riaz & Partners organised the annual 18th November Golf Tournament celebrating the 47th National Day of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the people of Oman. The Mohammed Riaz monthly Golf Tournaments are a part of the wider monthly medal that occurs every month. Mohammed Riaz is one of the leading building materials organisations here in the sultanate specialising in wood, glass, hardware, steel and aluminium and has since diversified into retail with the widely popular Home Mart International chain of malls. The year 2016 saw the first Mohammed Riaz & Partners tournament with a record number of ambassadors and dignitaries to grace the event.

The golf tournament sponsored by Mohammed Riaz is the brainchild of its managing director Faiz Mohammed Riaz who himself a passionate golfer is looking at ways to grow the game of golf. The chairman of Mohammed Riaz & Partners also believes that contributing to sports events, especially golf events, is the building of individual decision making and likewise leaders. He is a strong believer that golf teaches us individual leadership, how to make decisions under pressure and its contribution is a very healthy aspect. On top of that, the aim of these events is to contribute to the society through the medium of golf. One such endeavour is the recent partnership between Mohammed Riaz and Dar al Atta'a where for every birdie on the 18th hole in the Ghala Golf Club, RO50 will be donated to the organisation. Dar al Atta'a is a name synonymous with charity and changing lives of the underprivileged as well as raising awareness on a number of key issues that the sultanate is faced with.

The event started in the early morning with golfers starting at 6am. The afternoon session saw a Shotgun start at 12.30pm, where there was a turnout of 80 golfers that took advantage of the excellent change in weather, signifying the onset of the cooler months. The score to beat was Jeff Campbell, the reigning Assarain Golf Champion who took full advantage of the benign morning weather conditions with an excellent score of 74. Of course, as the afternoon wave of golfers started, the weather got a little more difficult with strong winds. Thus, the morning score of 74 could not be bettered but with an excellent game, the runner-up position went to none other than the sponsor Riaz who scored an excellent 78 taking the second place. After prize giving, there was a raffle draw for those who were present who received Home Mart Vouchers of RO60 (first draw), RO100 (second draw) and finally the Grand Lucky Draw of RO160. As usual, the evening ended with a wonderful dinner from Laval.

Finally, the 18th November Medal sponsored by Riaz is a celebration of the success of His Majesty the Sultan in making Oman a nation that despite its modernisation is sustainable, and is a home away from home for its millions of expatriates. The tournament is a celebration in praying to the Almighty Allah to safeguard His Majesty the Sultan and grant him good health and a long life.
