(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- InterContinental Muscat is celebrating after scooping two accolades at the recently concluded Hotelier Middle East Awards.
Evangeline Monterde, learning and development manager, was named HR and Training Person of the Year, and Habib Aulad Thani, doorman, won Unsung Hero of the Year.
Evangeline has been leading the learning and development department at InterContinental Muscat since 2015. She has championed the leadership development of 100 supervisors and managers through her six-month leadership blended-learning programme, and spread the learning culture within the hotel through by creating a team of departmental trainers which improved guest survey scores compared to the previous year. Monterde has actively trained over 100 Omani students since 2016 with at least ten per cent employment rate after the training.
Thani, who is 75 years old, started his career in 1981 at InterContinental Muscat, as a coffeeman. Over the last three decades of being a doorman, 'Uncle Habib', as many call him, wants to inspire young Omanis and open the hospitality door for them. He mentors new Omani colleagues, and is often mentioned by his guests as being a highlight of their stay. Director of Engineering, Viji Kunjachan, was also shortlisted for Engineering Person of the Year.
