Afghanistan- Govt. Offices, People Owe 560m Afs to DABS

(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KANDAHAR CITY - Government departments and residents owe about 560 million afghanis to Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) in unpaid power bills in southern Kandahar province, an official said Sunday.
DABS chief for Kandahar, Amanullah Faroqi, told a news conference at the governor's house here that Kandahar people and government departments previously owed about 900 million afs in outstanding power tariff but recently 40 percent of the arrears were paid to the power utility through the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
However, he said still 560 million afs remained unpaid and the MoF had promised clearing the remaining 60 percent dues soon.
Faroqi said some powerful individuals refusing to pay their bills in Kandahar would be introduced to the attorney's office soon. He, however, didn't name anyone.
The Kandahar power department has earlier complained about non-payment of power bills by government organizations and people, causing millions of loss to DABS on monthly basis. (Pajhwok)
