November 19, 2017; Dubai, UAE: Regular fertility screening for men is just as important as it is for women, since most men are unaware of physical issues that could lead to infertility, warn doctors at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, Dubai. Survey results also state that in around 50 percent of the cases, problems with men could be the cause of fertility issues. To highlight the importance, this Movember, Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, Dubai, is offering complimentary fertility screening for men from November 20 to November 30 at its clinic premises.

Infertility in men could be because of a number of reasons. One of the common causes is varicocele, which is basically mass of varicose veins in the spermatic cord, and which needssurgery for sperm extraction. The condition increases temperature so that testis gets too warm for normal sperm production and also affects the quality of the sperm repair will often improve sperm quality. Other biological causes include infection, ejaculation issues, tumors, hormone imbalance, certain medication and prior treatments and surgeries. Obesity, use of tobacco and alcohol, and stress also affect fertility.

'Unfortunately, our society is such that in cases of infertility, it is more-or-less assumed that the problem lies with the women, which is not always the case, said Dr. Mohamed ElKhouly, Specialist Urologist at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, Dubai, 'Men are also reluctant to go for screening, since they don't see the need for it. However, regular screening for male fertility health is especially important as many things can go unnoticed until a couple will try to conceive and experience difficulty. For example, if men get their semen analysis done every year or two, they will know about any issues and can be treated appropriately prior to trying. This way they will not end up losing time, particularly in cases where they are older than 35 years of age.

'In fact, we recently came across a couple where the husband was azoospermicabsence of sperm in the ejaculate for two years due to varicocele. He underwent semen analysis that helped him understand what the issue was. Fortunately for him, his condition improved with the use of medication and the doctors were able to find a sperm in his ejaculate, added Dr ElKhouly.

Bourn Hall Fertility Centre has been at the forefront of creating awareness through screening campaigns, seminars, talks and meet ups. The Centre is the only stand-alone fertility clinic to receive the prestigious American quality accreditation JCI.
