Rosetti Marino, an integrated Italian company providing EPC services to energy industry worldwide, inaugurated its Doha office on Thursday.
The Group has wide range of business interests, including extensive operations in oil and gas, petrochemicals, shipbuilding, offshore and onshore sectors.
The company has already won a $120m project from Qatargas for fabricating a brand new offshore platform (living quarter) with the capacity of 85 people, and refurbishment of an existing platform, which will be upgraded with modern facilities and connected to the new platform. The design and engineering works for the project are being undertaken in Milan.
The contract was awarded to some eight months ago, and initially it was supposed to be built at facilities in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE. But due to the ongoing unjust blockade, it will now be fabricated in Italy.
Rosetti Marino and Qatargas are now redefining the execution strategy of the project.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Qatar, Pasquale Salzano. 'I am pleased to welcome yet another Italian jewel, Rosetti Marino, to Qatar. It's an extremely well-established and well-known company. The presence of the company is good for both side. And I believe the country will appreciate it as the company serves in oil & gas sector, which is one of the most strategic filed for Qatar, Salzano said in his address at the event.
'The establishment of the new office is in line with the closer and strategic partnership between Italy and Qatar. Energy, for sure, is one of the key factors our trade and investment relationship between the two countries. It is an excellent mark of our growing bilateral relationship, he added.
Oscar Guerra, CEO of Rosetti Marino Group, speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event, said: 'The new office in Qatar is part of our long term plans to expand operations in the energy-rich country. We believe Qatar is now more open to establishing new partnerships with foreign companies to bring cutting-edge technologies and know-how to achieve objectives in line with the national vision,
Guerra added: 'Currently we are focusing on ‘green and brown fields' projects in Qatar's oil & gas sector. We have also found a potential partner to set up a joint venture in the country very soon.
About the delivery date of the project, he said usually it takes 20 months to complete, but due to the relocation it may get little delayed.
Asked about the possibilities of fabricating such facilities within Qatar for future projects, he said that Rosetti Marino, with the support of Qatargas and a local shipbuilding company, is exploring and examining for a potential yard to develop a fabrication facility in Qatar. 'This will require more technicians from our company to support this new kind of fabrication facility, said Guerra.
The Doha-branch of Rosetti Marino has 10 staff, but once they begin execution of the project in Ras Laffan, the number of staff is expected to grow up to 50 or even more.
