Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development (QF), is hosting a Graduate Studies Open House for students who are interested in pursuing master's and doctoral degrees. The open house will be held on Wednesday, November 22, at 5:30pm at the Education City Student Center.

HBKU's provost, deans, faculty members, and admissions staff will be available to meet prospective students and answer questions about the University's dynamic graduate programs and admissions.

The Graduate Studies Open House will begin with an introduction from HBKU Provost Dr Khaled B Letaief, who will provide attendees with context about the University's interdisciplinary approach to its academic curriculum as well as an overview of the various colleges and programs. An anticipated highlight of this year's Graduate Studies Open House will be the shared experiences of some of HBKU's alumni and students, who will speak about their studies at the University and how their education has helped them thrive both personally and professionally.

The event is one of several planned events that focus on welcoming potential students to HBKU. 'We encourage individuals who are interested in graduate studies to attend this event and hear first-hand about how HBKU is making an impact across Qatar and the globe, said Dr Letaief. 'It will be a great opportunity for them to learn about our unique innovative interdisciplinary academic programs and meet our highly accomplished students, faculty, and alumni.

This academic year, HBKU introduced three new graduate programs — a testament to the University's continuous efforts to pursue excellence, as well as its mandate to bring world-class education to Qatar. The new graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Digital Humanities and Societies degree, which blends digital tools and computing methodologies with the study of humanities. Also at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, a Master of Arts in Women, Society and Development degree was introduced, to focus on issues related to women in the context of socio-economic development in the Middle East. Master of Science and PhD degrees in Genomics and Precision Medicine are now being offered at the College of Science and Engineering, which provide, in a region's first, an advanced curriculum in the life sciences, integrating an extensive approach to hands-on research.

With graduate degrees in the fields of cybersecurity, data science, computer science and engineering, sustainability, biological and biomedical sciences, law, translation studies, audiovisual translation, Islamic studies, Islamic finance, and energy and resources, HBKU continues to offer academic programs that are both relevant and distinctive.

'Last year's Graduate Studies Open House was the ideal avenue for me to learn about the different graduate programs offered at HBKU. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and answered all of my queries clearly.

The information I gathered was invaluable and helped me reach a decision on my graduate studies. I would highly recommend the open house to everyone interested in pursuing higher education at HBKU, said Houd Al Obaidli, a Qatari PhD student working towards a degree from HBKU's sustainable energy program.

The University's admissions cycle opened in October 2017. Those interested in attending the Graduate Studies Open House can register for the event at: http://www.hbku.edu.qa/openhouse.
