Qatar- Traffic Department keeps tab on driving schools

The Traffic Department will keep a close eye on the driving schools across Qatar. The General Directorate of Traffic has begun conducting periodic inspection on schools to ensure that they offer best services to their customers. The inspection visits focus on checking trainers and devices used in these schools.

'Periodic inspections of driving schools are being conducted by the General Directorate of Traffic. It is aimed to improve trainers and to improve the training devices. We appreciate this monitoring from time to time because it will help us in developing our work in schools, said Mohamed Al Zain Ibrahim (pictured), Executive Manager of Gulf Driving School. He also said there is a lot of development done related to theory test and in improving the training devices. 'We have also started a training programme for people with special needs to obtain licence, which is one of its kind in the region, he said.

Regarding the press statement of Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic to The Peninsula, where he said that the ban on some job categories to get licence was temporary, Al Zain said: 'As a driving school we are optimistic and waiting for such decision because it will increase the demand of driving licence for light vehicle and will be beneficial for us .

As part of a national strategy to address traffic congestion, the Traffic Department has banned more than 180 jobs to apply for driving licence and clarified that the licences are not necessary for these categories in this situation that many roads are under construction.

Commenting about the current trend of demand for licences, Al Zain pointed out that the demand is not high and is normal. Replying to a question of the percentage of trainees who are passing the driving test, he said that 'the percentage is ranging from 40 to 50 percent.
