Fund to fight diseases launched by Abu Dhabi


(MENAFN) The 'Reaching the Last Mile Fund' to raise USD100 million with the intention of exterminating, eliminating, and controlling preventable diseases that get in the way of the health and economic prospects of the world's poorest people has been launched by Abu Dhabi.

During his attendance of the global health forum, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces launched the fund under the name 'Reaching the Last Mile: Together to Eliminate Infectious Diseases', in which held in Abu Dhabi, according to a report by the Emirate news agency Wam.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed committed USD20 million to the Fund, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will contribute up to USD20 million.

The Fund will be managed by the END Fund, a philanthropic investment platform focused on tackling the five most common neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
