UAE- Fastest, smartest and meanest: Car makers push boundaries

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Supercars, sedans and SUVs, electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles - there's more than 550 cars at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show, many of which have never been seen before in the region or anywhere else in the world.

Whatever your preference - fastest, loudest, biggest, greenest, loudest, maddest or downright meanest - this year's show has something for every car lover. In no particular order, here are some of the most eye-catching cars.

Most futuristic hypercar: Aston Martin Valkyrie

Designed in conjunction with the legendary Red Bull Racing team, Aston Martin's stunning Valkyrie is like an alien craft that's popped to earth for a fleeting visit. Only 150 will be made and there isn't a single component on the Valkyrie made from steel.

Meanest SUV: Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk

Step aside rivals, the crown of quickest and most powerful SUV in the world has been taken by Jeep. Revealed to the world in Dubai, the American manufacturer's new, 707 horsepower Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a beast fit for racing.

Most luxurious limo: Rolls-Royce Phantom

The ultimate luxury brand, Rolls-Royce, has unveiled its all-new Phantom, replacing the model which reinvented the British company back in 2003. The 2018 Phantom looks familiar but has been redesigned from the ground up to offer greater rigidity and more efficiency thanks to a new V12 engine.

Most sophisticated school run vehicle: OKCU Mercedes Sprinter

Imagine pulling up at the school gates in one of these bad boys - your children would be the toast of the class. Turkish brand OKCU is one of the world's leading providers of luxury, bespoke vehicles that combine superior appointments with immense practicality.

Most surprising car: Dubai Police BMW i3

Famous the world over for its fleet of dazzling and exotic supercars, Dubai Police is always looking to the future. The force is promoting its all-electric, compact BMW i3 in Dubai this week, hammering home its support for the emirate's plan for at least 10 per cent of government vehicles to be powered only by electricity by the year 2021.

Fastest American: Corvette ZR1

The standard Corvette Stingray is no slouch, but the global reveal of the ZR1 version in Dubai is set to redefine performance for American vehicles. In short, it's the fastest and most powerful model in Corvette history and the entire General Motors portfolio.

Coolest artwork: McLaren 720S UAE edition

McLaren's unique 720S supercar is designed by the British company's Special Operations department. It features a rather special logo on its rear wing, inspired by Dubai and the words of the brand's founder, Bruce McLaren: "Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone."

Most unique machine: Icona Vulcano

Bespoke Italian company Icona is displaying its one-off Vulcano Titanium - a supercar with a curvaceous body crafted from the aforementioned metal. The panels that piece together this sculpture on wheels have been hand beaten in a process that took more than 10,000 painstaking hours to complete.

Most Middle East concept: GMC Desert Fox

This region's love for GMC stretches back nine decades, long before tarmac debuted in the Gulf. Named the Desert Fox Middle East Concept Truck, it's been created specifically for this region and is displayed alongside a meticulously restored version of the original Desert Fox Jimmy, which has been in constant use in Saudi Arabia since 1979.
