Trilateral meeting on Syria coming as final touches

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

An upcoming trilateral meeting on Syria between Iran, Russia and Turkey will probably come as a venue for the three sides to put final touches on their Syria cooperation, an expert believes.

Recently, the Kremlin announced that in the coming days it will host a gathering of the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey to discuss their cooperation over the political developments in Syria.

In the light of recent remarks by some Iranian commanders, this upcoming meeting will probably help the cooperating sides draw a trajectory of political developments after the "Islamic State" (IS, ISIS, ISIL, Daesh) is wiped out, Ali Geranmayeh told Trend Nov. 17.

Masoud Jazayeri, the second in command of Iran's General Staff of Armed Forces, recently said in an exclusive interview with Trend that the IS is witnessing its final days of life.

Iran, Russia, and Turkey support the preservation of Bashar Assad as president at least for as long as elections are held and a new government is formed.

Syria has been in a state of chaos since 2011 when domestic disturbances occurred. The IS took the moment to occupy swaths of land of the country.
