Qatar ranked 15th among top health care systems globally

Qatar was ranked 15th among the top health care systems in the world, according to an international survey that classifies world countries in terms of prosperity.
The classification is significant for measuring and ranking the health of people living in these countries. It comprises of three main components that have been identified as a measure of the quality of the health care system, including the country's basic mental and physical health, health infrastructure, and the availability of preventive care.
Under the banner of 'healthier societies and brighter future, Qatar will host the International Primary Health Care Conference, which starts today and will last for three days.
Held under the patronage of Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, the conference will host senior local and regional lecturers, experts and academics in the presence of heads of primary health care in Kuwait and Oman as well as president of the World Organisation of Family Doctors and a group of dignitaries.
The conference will provide an important platform for the professional and scientific interaction between health care professionals and medical personnel to develop primary health services. It will also help in deepening the expertise and knowledge among primary health care professionals, and improving performance through mutual understanding of the importance of coordination between primary, secondary and tertiary health services.
The conference also features several issues that will be covered during its sessions such as health systems and quality improvement, enhancing health and prevention, education, and capacity building. The conference will bring together speakers and experts from all over the world to exchange knowledge and the best practices through the different sessions in addition to workshops and exhibitions that will precede the event and touch on a number of topics such as methods of carrying out some important tests, minor surgical skills related to wound management, and cultural competence. Holding the conference in Qatar and on a global level underscores the State's interest in the health sector and demonstrates the magnitude of spending and investment in the primary health care systems to build healthier societies. Health is one of the key aspects of human development, and progress in health care is an integral part of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The conference is significant for being a major step that consolidates the concepts of primary health care at the local and international levels. It will discuss 58 local and international working papers, and the scientific committee has followed scientific criteria and methodology to define the themes and topics of the conference and maximize the benefit from international experiences in the medical field.
PHCC Managing Director Dr Mariam Alabdulmalik said the conference aims to enhance the status of primary health care and family medicine as a basic model for the care base in the modern health system, and to review the latest developments and scientific medical outputs within the framework of primary care based on research findings and scientific evidence.
The conference also aims to embody the commitment of the primary health care institution to health services and the continuous development of its services, raising awareness, and highlighting the importance of healthy lifestyles for building productive communities.
Dr Alabdulmalik added that there is a continuous need for health care professionals to develop their knowledge, discover the latest innovations in healthcare and learn new methods available to them to ensure excellence in health care. She stressed that the conference will be a landmark for primary health care in Qatar and the region. She predicted the number of attendees to be around 750 people.
The list of participants at the local level includes doctors from PHCC, the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Sidra Medical and Research Center, and University of Calgary in Qatar's nursing program. At the international level, doctors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Kuwait and Lebanon will participate in the conference.
Deputy head of the logistic committee of the conference, Nasser Obaidan, said holding the conference is a confirmation to what was mentioned in the speech of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, where he highlighted the importance of opening new cooperation aspects and methods with the world in the field of medicine and medications and developing them to reach self sufficiency. Obaidan also explained there is an accompanying exhibition to the conference that will include the participation of 11 companies which are part of the PHCC.
