UAE- 50% discount on UAQ traffic fines for limited period

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Umm Al Quwain has announced 50 per cent discount on traffic fines for a limited time.

Starting on November 19 (Sunday), the UAQ Police will launch a 42-day grace period during which motorists can pay only 50 per cent against their traffic violations.

"The cut, effective from November 19 to December 31, is meant to mark the UAE's 46th National Day," said Col Humaid Ahmad Saeed Al Ali, deputy director of the UAQ traffic police.

The move is also aimed to decrease people's financial burdens and bring happiness to UAQ police customers."

The discount is available on all traffic violations committed on the emirate's roads, he added.

"However, the fine discount is only applicable on road violations committed beforeNovember 19."

Erring drivers should pay their fines via the Ministry of Interior's smart applications or at any service centre, Col Al Ali explained.

"The only exception to this discount is the non-payable fines which violators need to visit the traffic department to process," he said. "Drivers are urged to take the chance and pay a lower traffic fine."

As per the tougher unified traffic law with higher fines and a black points system amended in July all over the UAE, violators are penalised with up to 24 black points, following which they lose their driving license.
