EU welcomes KRG admitting of Iraqi court ruling
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Nov 15 (KUNA) -- The European Union welcomed as "a significant step" the statement made by the Kurdistan Regional Government accepting the ruling by the Iraqi Federal Court.
The ruling clarifies the interpretation of Article 1 of the Iraqi Constitution, therefore underlining the unity and federal nature of Iraq, and expressing its clear commitment to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the Government of Iraq, said Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, in a statement on Wednesday night.
"It should open the way to a comprehensive dialogue between the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government. This is the only manner to resolve all the pending disputes in the interest of a peaceful and prosperous future for all Iraqi citizens," she added.
The EU stands ready to offer its support to such a dialogue if requested by all parties, according to the statement. (end) nk.gb
