NAB fires employees over mortgages

(MENAFN) After finding around 2,300 mortgages have been possibly issued without appropriate documentation, National Australia Bank has fired many bankers and gave warnings to dozens more.

According to NBA, a review revealed about 2,300 mortgages since 2013 may have been submitted without correct documentation, with many cases related to abroad borrowers.

NAB consumer bank chief said: "What occurred was unacceptable, we have investigated this matter thoroughly, and, as we have always said, whenever we find issues we will investigate them, fix them, and hold people to account - and we did."

NAB said it has found out about the issue in Oct. 2015, and had been in constant contact with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission since notifying the regulator in Dec. the same year.
