(MENAFN- Arab Times) 'Health' to supply pharmacies with advanced medicines
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: Ministry of Health at a recent meeting notified the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Social and Labor Affairs that it agrees in principle on including housewives in the retiree health insurance scheme (AFIA), reports Al- Jarida daily.
Member of the committee MP Khalid Al-Otaibi said the ministry affirmed the need to provide a database containing the exact number of housewives to determine specific cost of the scheme before approval. He said the meeting agreed to conclude discussion on the issue after providing the number of housewives plus other information required for that purpose. He indicated the committee stopped deliberation on the responsibility of medical practitioners concerning medical errors and decided to invite Kuwait Medical Association next Sunday to conclude the discussion.
He stressed the committee agreed to include certain issues on the agenda of its next meeting, such as medicines the Ministry of Health distributed to hospitals that did not meet specifications, shortage of some important medicines in hospitals, and some nurses in hospitals and health centers refusing to use Vitamin D urinals because they're grizzled and contained some sediments.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health is making preparations to supply pharmacies at Hussein Makki Al-Jumah Cancer Center with advanced medicines for cancer patients, and KD 4.2 million has been earmarked for the project, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The daily quoting a reliable source disclosed the intention to ensure improved healthcare services for patients and visitors to the center, while the quantity of medicines will not reduce. He stressed the ministry is on the verge of supplying public hospitals and the specialist clinics medicines for psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis at a cost of KD 1.2 million, in addition to polio vaccines worth KD 1.1 million for all preventive health departments at health centers and hospitals.
He noted the ministry has since obtained approvals from concerned authorities to import medicines and vaccines, while pharmacies at the hospitals and health centers will receive medicines for diabetes, rheumatism, nervous system and kidney at a cost of KD 2.5 million. He indicated medicines for viral diseases at the Infectious Diseases Hospital will cost KD 199,000, in addition to anesthesia for treatment of drug addicts at the Rehabilitation Center
