Sustainable Chemistry conference begins


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A three-day conference organised by the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on green and sustainable chemistry got under way on Monday.

It was organised under the patronage of H E Dr Fuad bin Jaafar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. The conference deals with a number of topics such as green chemical preparations, green chemical and industrial processes, water treatment, nanotechnology for water treatment, lignin chemistry, environmental chemistry, clean and sustainable energy, methods of analysis and technology, green environmental analysis and sustainable stimulation, and analysis of emerging pollutants.

The first-of-its-kind conference in the sultanate aims to strengthen channels of scientific cooperation between the chemistry department at Sultan Qaboos University and other universities. As many as 173 participants from 29 countries, including Germany, the UK, Austria, Slovakia, Canada, and Kuwait are attending the conference.
