Pupils to perform plays at Darb Al Saai's theatre

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) School pupils are set to perform theatrical plays at Darb Al Saai's open theatre as part of the upcoming National Day celebrations.
Ghanim al-Sulaiti, head of theatre activities organising committee for the National Day celebrations, yesterday said that six primary schools are taking part this year with a number of both boys and girls who have qualified to train for the
upcoming performances.
The main themes of the plays, which have been written by Qatari authors for the occasion, tackle various societal and community issues such as promoting respect of domestic workers. This year comes also with its very particular circumstances due to the ongoing blockade imposed on the country by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, which is also reflected throughout some of the topics of the plays that would be featured at the open air stage at Darb Al Saai for the public.
Al-Sulaiti stressed that the event will be a great opportunity to discover the gifted pupils at both private and public schools in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Training and rehearsal is going on at the selected six schools under the supervision of the Qatari directors concerned in collaboration with school staff.
The music that would be featured in the plays has been
composed by Qatari composers.
Jassim al-Ansari, general supervisor of the committee, pointed out that the final show would be held after 14 performances by the selected teams to single out the most
distinguished play.
He said that the activity this year is much more sophisticated compared to the last year with more equipment and better preparations.
'Such activities would reflect positively on all types of performing arts in the country through the creation of a young generation of creative individuals not only in acting but in other forms of arts including music, design and drawing. The activity is adopting the motto ‘Our children on the stage', he said.
