FM, Egyptian counterpart discuss Palestinian reconciliation, region


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Nov.12 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, Sunday discussed with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, bilateral ties as well as the latest regional developments.

During his official visit, Shoukry will deliver a message from Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to His Majesty King Abdullah II.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers also focused on the latest developments concerning the recent Palestinian reconciliation deal, as well as efforts to end the division among them .

Talks also touched on efforts to boost the Palestinian national unity and support resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations that would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Safadi affirmed Jordan's support for efforts made by Egypt to achieve this reconciliation.

The two officials also tackled the latest developments in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq as well as means to counter terrorism in the region.

During the meeting, Safadi briefed Shukri on the deal signed by Jordan, the United States and Russia concerning principles of the memorandum on "De-escalation zone" in southern Syria.

At the end of their meeting, the two minsters agreed to continue cooperation and coordination in the regional developments to serve both countries common interests and goals.
