Despite the blockade imposed by its neighbours, Qatar continues to meet its obligations towards humanitarian action, Tareq Al Ansari, International Cooperation Department Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.

'Qatar has stressed and confirmed its continuous humanitarian support in troubled regions around the world which proves that the wise leadership of H H Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has placed Qatar above the blockade and the blockading countries, said Al Ansari.

He was speaking at yesterday's opening of the MENA Youth Capacity Building in Humanitarian Action (MYCHA) training organized by Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

Qatari humanitarian action has proven its high-level transparency in delivering the aid to all the needy as per international regulations, humanitarian action procedures and international standards, he said.

He stressed Qatar believes in dialogue and political solutions to resolve conflicts and crises and participates in establishing world peace which is stated in Qatar National Vision 2030 in line with established humanitarian principles.

In addition, he underlined the importance of establishing, enforcing and respecting humanitarian law observing its provisions particularly in providing aid to civilians without discrimination based on religion, race or colour.

Qatar also emphasizes the need for international efforts to reduce human and physical damages and losses in crisis situations and to develop resilience and to participate in humanitarian response, he said.

Addressing the 150 international participants at the MYCHA training, Al Ansari underscored the important role of the youth in humanitarian action.

'The state of Qatar has adhered to the belief for the need of involving the youth in humanitarian action, for their pivotal role in determining their future and this gathering is a direct translation of such commitment, he said.
'On behalf of everyone here, I would like to commend the champions of this event-the young boys and girls who have exerted their efforts to serve humanity, he added.

The three-day event, he said, is organised in light of complex humanitarian conditions, displacement of refugees, as many encounter inevitable death due to crisis inflicting the MENA region which many civilians particularly women and young children have been affected.

He said that the World Humanitarian Summit has provided a unique opportunity to consult on the challenges facing humanitarian action, with a wide range of relevant stakeholders, governments, civil society organizations, experts and communities affected.

He added the Qatar participated in all stages of the consultative process, noting that Doha hosted the World Youth Consultative Summit in 2014, with the participation of more than 350 young men and women in order to convey the voice of youth as key part in shaping the future of humanitarian work to decision-makers around the world.

The consultative conference, he said, resulted in the ‘Doha Youth Declaration on Reshaping the Humanitarian Agenda' which included priorities and recommendations after significant analysis have taken place, adding the event continues ROTA's commitment to continue improving youth capacity in humanitarian action as a strategy to crystallize and translate the recommendations in the summit to reality.

Qatar emphasizes on the need to support education in regions affected by crises to prevent children from dropping out of school, he said.

He cited the QUEST initiative to support the education of displaced people and Syrian refugees within the framework of investing in education as one of the initiatives that represents this policy on the ground which constitutes a role model in education agenda in crisis. He stressed that Qatar's international cooperation strategy, has paid considerable attention to youth and expanded options available for them.
